Miami,

Taking advantage of the spring like weather
that Florida offers in the month of
February, the United States Billiard
Association has designated Miami as "The
Place" to hold this year's Nationals.
The event will
be held at New Wave Billiards in Miami,
Florida. The preliminary matches will
begin Wednesday, February 8 until Friday
10. The final matches will start
after a player's meeting right after
the preliminary matches and will run
until Sunday, February 12 of the
current year.
The
best forty players in the country have already
arranged to meet the most
ferocious 3-Cushion billiard competitors
in the USA. The top five payers from last
year's Nationals, Sonny Cho, current National
Champion, Pedro Piedrabuena, current Runner
Up, Michael Kang, Mazin Shooni and Roberto
Arana (Third, fourth and fifth place finishers)
will be seeded into five different groups
of eight or more players each.
The
main objective of the tournament is to select
the this year's Champion and Runner Up who
will represent the USA in the
UMB world Championship to be held in Egypt
next September.

Players who won a qualifying position
at the regional qualifying tournaments
held across the country include Adrian
Viguera (sixth place finisher 2005) who
went undefeated at the Downer's Grove,
Illinois Central Regional qualifier. Another
qualifier in the Central Section held at
Jilly's of Marshalltown, Iowa, was won by
Doug Brink from the Kansas City, Missouri
area.
The
Tacoma Elks Club held a qualifier for the
North Western Section. Because of the larger
number of competitors, three players secured
their spots at the Nationals.
World
Class Billiards of Peabody Massaschusets
qualified two additional players from the North Eastern Section. Bob Page,
and David VanLockeren.
Two
USBA Qualifiers were held at the Executive
Inn Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. The
2006 Derby City Classic - The first qualifier
was won by Tom Rossman. The honors for the
second qualifier went to Bob Letherby.
The
South Eastern qualifier held at Carom Pocket
Billiards in Fort Lauderdale, Florida guaranteed
two additional spots. The qualifiers are
Carlos Hallon and Don Sperber.
Khalil
Diab won the Northern California qualifier.
The winners of the qualifying rounds along
with the rest of the players in the tournament
conform the elite of the United States 3-Cushion
Billiards.
